Remote learning on chemistry and sustainability during COVID-19

Do you want to use your time at home to learn more on sustainability and its role in chemistry? We provide you some useful links to learn more about this exciting topic.

We found some very valuable links and videos that may embellish your time at home while giving you very useful information on sustainability and its role in chemistry. For instance, the Gesellschaft deutscher Chemiker (GDCh) provides a platform for sustainable chemistry and offers a daily dose of chemistry at home. Moreover, everyone who is not yet convinced that chemistry is one of the most fascinating research areas should have a look on Faszination Chemie, to learn more on the reactivity of elements, chemistry in our daily life and sustainable chemical research.

If you are working in the field of chemistry and want to learn more and what you can do to make your research and working conditions more sustainable, please have a look at my green lab and the corresponding video by Allison Paradise (CEO).

Additionally, the high energy comsumption and greenhouse gas emission of laboratories have pursued researchers at Harvard University to come up with some very inspiring and innovative ideas on how to make laboratories greener.

Sustainability in science also refers to the efficient use of resources and money by sponsors as nicely demonstrated by Bringing Efficiency To Research (BETR) Grants which is an ongoing focus of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) University Alliance Group (UAG).

Interested in educating sustainability, but in need of some inspiring ideas? Check out the side by Herr Kalt to learn more on sustainability e.g. the role of our atmosphere (see video). For more clear and concise videos on all fields of engineering, have a look here.

Finally, in order to keep our SDG goal no 4 (quality education) running, the Corona virus requires rethinking of education in general, since instead of face-to-face lectures online tools have to be used. There a variety of open educational resources available that might help you out.

Most importantly! Don't forget about goal no. 3 'Good health and well being' and stay healthy!
